28/02/04: Appeal to rehome our long stay animals

Llys Nini in the snow, February 2004

The Llys Nini Animal Centre presently has some animals who despite being ready and waiting for adoption, have not been selected by visitors to the Centre. All have been fully health checked and are simply looking for loving homes. Older animals are often overlooked as puppies and kittens in particular are preferred. Mature animals tend to be better prepared and require less intervention on the part of the new owner.

Profiles of the animals are given here. If you would like to find out more, please contact the staff of the Animal Centre on 01792 229435, email info@llysnini-rspca.org.uk or visit us between 11.00am and 3.45pm, any day except Wednesday. Click here for full contact details.

Colin is a 12-18 month old black Lurcher Cross. He is very friendly and affectionate, and would be well suited to a new home with no other pets as he has a tendency to chase other animals. The new owners will require a secure garden and enough time to give him the love and attention he needs. In return he is loyal to those who care for him, and makes great company. He won't require any more exercise than most other dogs, just two 15-minute walks every day.

We often find it difficult to rehome black dogs, and also lurchers - he has been with us for seven months.

Colin - Lurcher Cross, 12-18 months old

Jarvis - domestic short-haired cat

Jenna: Like most of our cats, this five-year old female cat came in via one of our ambulance drivers.  She is a friendly, well-rounded cat who does like her sleep. She has been through the wards, having had treatment for her eyes, ears and tummy. She is now in good health and looking for a friendly, relaxed home where she would settle in and give her new owners great company. Now rehomed.
Daisy May is one our oldest residents at ten years old. A corgi/terrier cross, she came to Llys Nini after her owner became ill and could no longer provide her with the care she needed. She travels well on short journeys and is great with children, but she will chase male dogs and cats.

She is not fully house-trained but this will come with a little association training (please ask for details). She is a lovely little dog looking for a welcoming and friendly new home.

Other animals currently looking for homes:

Bonnie: A 4-5 year old fawn greyhound. She has a very nervous disposition, having been cruelly treated in her past. She requires a home ideally with no other dogs, and with people who can give her plenty of love and attention. Once she is able to know someone, particularly women, she shows a loving and affectionate personality. She is loved by all the Llys Nini staff but she would be happier in a loving home rather than in her kennel at the Centre.

Kahn: A 3-4 year old german shepherd. He came to us as as part of a cruelty case, and only has three legs due to ill treatment. His missing leg makes little difference to her daily life and he has coped admirably. His ability to pull on the lead is proof of his ability to cope! He loves the sole attention of his owner and is not a big fan of other dogs. His particular favourite time is having his tummy rubbed.

Jarvis: A little white domestic short-haired cat. She came to us via one of the ambulance drivers as a victim of a road traffic accident, where she sustained a neck injury. She has been nursed back to health and is now coming to the end of her cage rest. She is extremely affectionate and loves a good fuss. She enjoys an afternoon snooze and has a great deal of love and affection to give her new owners.

Drifter and Bounty: Two Chinchillas, born at Llys Nini on 26 May 2003. We rehomed their parents but haven't found homes for these two. Their new owners will need space so that they can run around indoors, and preferably experience as chinchillas are not the easiest of pets. They have fine hair so households with asthma are not suitable. They remain very friendly and comical little duo. To see what a Chinchilla looks like, click here.

Charlton and Athletic: Two ferrets. They had a rough start in life after being abandoned in a box in Cardiff before being transported by animal ambulance to Llys Nini. They are the best of friends, one being slightly more active than the other. They enjoy playing any game you choose to play with them, especially chasing your feet.

Rio: A female rabbit. She is friendly, and came to the Centre after her owners found that she didn't get on with their other rabbit. A big fan of her greens, she will make a great pet.

Sasha: A russian hamster. A little lady who is always on the go and could keep her new owner entertained for hours as she rumages around her surroundings from dawn to dusk. She is a little nippy, despite her years. She has now been at Llys Nini for two years and deserves a regular home as soon as possible.

Fifteen budgies: A variety of budgies with different colours, histories and backgrounds. We would prefer that they not go into an aviary environment where they would be bred but will have companionship of their own kind. They need plenty of exercise and would make a welcome addition to any garden.

For further information on any of the animals, please call the Llys Nini centre on 01792 229435, email info@llysnini-rspca.org.uk or visit the centre between 11.00am and 3.45pm, any day except Wednesday. Click here for full contact details. Thank you.
