26/01/04: Safe Haven signs up its 100th regular donor |
|
|
|
Thanks to the backing of the Evening Post, the 100th Safe Haven member has just committed their support to the running of the Llys Nini Animal Centre in Penllergaer. The Safe Haven scheme was launched back in October 2003. It is a way that local people can pledge their support to the RSPCA Llys Nini Animal Centre and thereby enabling it to continue to rescue and rehome over a thousand animals each year. Not many people realise that Llys Nini is the animal centre that rescues animals from the whole of South and Mid-Wales and that it is locally run and locally funded.

|
The Centre is run by the
local RSPCA branch and receives none of its running
costs from the National RSPCA. Sally Hyman, Branch
Chair comments "all our funds are raised locally,
thanks to people's generosity. We are very grateful
to the people who put money in our collection boxes
and who give us goods to sell in our three shops,
and to those people who bring in old blankets to
the Animal Centre. [Click here for contact details] We
are particularly in debt to those volunteers who
help us to exercise the dogs at the Centre and who
work in our shops." Many people regularly give
money to the RSPCA National Charity, not realising
that we at Llys Nini are a separate
charity.
The Safe Haven Members all have their names
displayed on our members boards at the Animal
Centre and on our website (click here for the
list). These people have sponsored a kennel or cat
pen for about £1 a week, without them, we
would not have been able to help the puppies, dogs
and cats that have been dumped over the Christmas
period. |

Most of our members have joined up through the Evening Post, others have picked up a leaflet at heir local vets or visited the Centre. You can also access a membership form online by clicking here. Although 100 members are making a significant contribution to the £300,000 plus running costs of the Branch, we still need more people to join. Some people gave Safe Haven Membership as a Christmas present, others have made a contribution in the name of a lost loved one; pet or person. One school at Christmas held a non-uniform day and bought a year's sponsorship with the proceeds. All the names of the supporters are up on the boards on the kennel or in the cattery and people are encouraged to come and visit the Centre to see their plaques. Click here for more information about how to join the Safe Haven scheme. To see who has already signed up to the scheme, click here for a list. Many thanks from all at the Branch for your commitment. |
