25/05/04: Dog of the Year Show - Sunday 6 June (sponsored by Tesco) *updated 20/06/04* |
During the past 12 months, RSPCA Llys Nini has rescued and rehomed around 300 dogs. The people who give a new home to our dogs are very special as they give a second chance to these animals that are often neglected, abandoned or abused. They lavish such care, love and time on these animals that on return visits, we often have difficulty recognising the poor waif that originally came into the Animal Centre.
| We love to see the dogs happy and healthy, so we have a special day each year when all rescue dogs are invited back to take part in a fun dog show. The South Wales heat of RSPCA Dog of the Year will be held at the Llys Nini Animal Centre on Sunday 6 June from 12 midday. Any rescue dog, from any rescue organisation, can be entered and the winner will represent South Wales in the national final later this year. |

This year, we feel that a number of recently rehomed dogs will have a very good chance of winning the National Competition. Many of them have featured in the media and through the kind donations of the people of South Wales have been returned to health. Remember Rufus, the lame greyhound who needed extensive surgery to rebuild his leg? The money for the operation was raised through a campaign organised by the South Wales Evening Post. Then there was Suzy, who featured in the news following a successful prosecution for throwing her down a flight of stairs, breaking her hip, legs and causing internal damage. Suzy was nursed back to health and taught to walk again and now lives very comfortably in her new home. |
| Most people will remember Peanut, the deaf blind puppy who won the hearts of people right across the country. Thanks to the local media, the Animal Centre was able to raise the thousands of pounds needed for an operation to give Peanut his sight. I am sure that any one of these dogs and some of the hundreds of other rescue dogs could win the National Title. We would really love to have our first ever Welsh winner of the Competition this year. |

There will be a number of other competitions, open to all types of dog, rescue or otherwise. Competitions such as the dog with the waggiest tail, the most appealing eyes, the dog that looks most like its owner and many others. All judged by our celebrity judge. Everyone is welcome, there will be refreshments, dog agility displays, games, stalls and many other attractions. For further
