08/05/04: Fundraising triumphs *updated 16/05/04*

Llys Nini Animal Centre

Events during the last month has shown the dedication of the staff, trustees and supporters of the Llys Nini Branch of the RSPCA.

Katy Howel from Dunvant, Swansea ran the 2004 London Marathon to raise funds in a very respectable time of 4 hours 12 minutes. She was the 2042th female to successfully finish. Congratulations on an outstanding personal achievement and for the funds raised through sponsorship.

During Tesco week, a grand total of £3,000 was collected from generous shoppers who met Branch representatives at stores across the region. Some volunteers undertook ten-hour shifts but their efforts have paid off and valuable funds raised.

The annual branch open day has collected £3,500 from visitors and sponsors of the activities that took place on the early May bank holiday weekend. This included the successful 'put your boss in the doghouse' event that saw local celebrities, managers and parents being locked up in return for sponsorship money.

Our sincere thanks goes to all those people who helped us raise funds by taking part in these events. However, the race to raise funds continues as the Branch costs c. £370,000 per year to run. We receive no government funding and are a separate organisation from the national RSPCA, and have no automatic funding. Our next event is the Dog of the Year show, to be held at Llys Nini Animal Centre on Sunday 6 June from 12 noon onwards. This is a fun dog show with plenty of classes including waggiest tail and most appealing eyes. The event will culminate in the Llys Nini heat of Rescue Dog of the Year. The winner will compete in the national RSPCA event. You can download a poster or email sally@llysnini-rspca.org.uk if you would like to receive one by post for display.

The staff of the Animal Centre will happily answer queries. Either email them at info@llysnini-rspca.org.uk or call the centre on 01792 229435 between 11am and 3.45pm, every day except Wednesday.
