03/07/04: Can you rehome one of our special animals? |

In September 2002 RSPCA Inspectors seized over 50 cats from an address in Swansea. Mr and Mrs Jones were prosecuted by the RSPCA, this has been a long and protracted case, and although the couple were found guilty they appealed against the verdict. The operation has taken nearly 2 years to come to this point, with the court deciding that the majority of the cats should be signed over to the RSPCA Branch. During this time the cats have had to stay at the Llys Nini Animal Centre. When they came into the Centre, many of them were in poor condition and we have had to work very hard to nurse them back to full health. When the RSPCA prosecute, the animals are actually temporarily confiscated and held by us until the case is concluded. If a guilty verdict is achieved the judge can ban the accused from keeping animals, when this is the case, we the RSPCA Branch have to find them new homes. |
These cats have been with us for nearly 2 years – they are special needs cats, and we have to find them extra special homes. As they have been sharing cat pens for so long, it would be better if they are either rehomed in pairs or go to a home with another cat. At this time of year, the Animal Centre is bursting at the seams. It is currently “kitten and puppy season”. There are hundreds of young animals on the waiting lists but Llys Nini is full to capacity, no more kittens or cats can be taken in until these “Jones cats” are rehomed. Steve Byrne the Animal Centre Manager is concerned that most people coming to Llys Nini to find a new pet are looking for kittens and that these rescued cats will find it difficult to be rehomed. “I understand that people think that kittens are cute but people should really look at their circumstances. If you are out all day, then you should not have a kitten which needs regular feeding and company. A more mature animal would be more suitable and these cats really deserve a second chance.”
