02/04.07 : No ears 'ere

Snowy

Libby

It may be early in the year and perhaps we have only just started to enjoy the sun, but Llys Nini Animal Centre are already warning against over exposure to the sun.

"White eared animals are particularly susceptible to having their ears burned and then developing cancer. We are trying to make pet owners aware of the dangers and advising that they treat their pets ears with high factor sunblock - the type used on babies is best."

The Centre has issued this warning after 2 cats recently brought into the Centre as strays were found to have cancer in their ears. Both cats are predominantly white and must have developed the condition from having sun burned ears. Libby and Snowy have had their ears removed and may not look the prettiest of cats but have made a full recovery and are looking for good homes.

Llys Nini is open everyday throughout the holidays except Wednesdays from 11.00 to 3.45. Animals are all health checked, vaccinated, defleaed and microchipped. The Centre is currently full to capacity and the Centre staff are hoping that they will soon be able to find new homes for their 72 cats, 57 dogs, rabbits, ferrets, degus and birds.

"We just can't help to rescue more animals until we can rehome some of the animals we already have".
