1. Introduction |
|
| The Llys Nini Animal
Centre is located on the former Llys Nini farm in
Penllergaer, Swansea. The site is approximately 72
acres in size. It was purchased by the now Llys
Nini Branch of the RSPCA in 1996 and converted into
a purpose-designed animal rehabilitation centre
which opened in April 1997. It includes an
administration block (including educational
facilities), treatment areas, accommodation for 57
dogs and 72 cats plus a variety of miscellaneous
animals, amongst other uses. |
|
2. A tour of the centre |
|
|
|
The Cattery provides interior and exterior space for each cat. Cats are usually housed individually. An isolation area provides quite respite space for new mothers and sick cats. |
| Members of the public are able to view the cats which are ready and able to be adopted. The remainder of the block is out of public view so that the sick or injured cats can be treated in peace. |
|
|
|
The dogs have their own inside and outside space for use during the day. At night, the outside area of each pen is closed so that the dogs stay warm and can sleep. Members of the public cannot enter the inside of the kennel blocks but are welcome to view the dogs from the outside, save in exceptional circumstances. |
| The Administration block houses the Visitors Centre, staff offices, treatment areas, and our meeting room. All visitors enter the site through the visitors centre, signing themselves in so that the staff know who is on site at all times. |
|
3. Opening hours |
|
| Visitors are
welcomed at Llys Nini between 11.00am and 3.45pm,
every day except Wednesday. If you wish to see a

|
As well as dogs and
cats, the miscellaneous block can a variety of other
animals. This includes seals rescued from the South
Wales coast. The seals only stay at Llys Nini for a
short time, perhaps 24-28 hours, before being driven to the RSPCA's
specialist facility in Norfolk for full treatment. Wherever possible, the animals are released back to the wild where they were originally rescued. |
